Hi! I’m Rachel.

I have over two decades of experience as a strategist and designer, working with leading financial institutions and innovative startups. I’m currently a Senior UX Designer at Popular, the leading financial institution in Puerto Rico since 1893.

I am a generalist and my professional experiences reflect the diversity of roles I’ve excelled at. I see design from a holistic perspective, and that’s the way it informs the work I’ve done through the entirety of my career.

In 2022, I founded Umbral/Liminal, a global consultancy agency that offers conscious UX strategy, design thinking, and ethical design services. I’m passionate about bridging the gap between ethics and aesthetics and bringing inclusion and equity to my client's work.

I’m also a LUMA Certified Facilitator and a mentor for prospective and junior practitioners who want to prioritize human-centered design principles in their work. I’ve also been able to educate prospective designers on HCD principles at higher education levels.

Regarding volunteer work, I’m part of the staff at Diseño Ético Comunidad. This Latin American-based community aims to educate on the value of Ethical Design in the UX industry. I was also the Creative Director for DigitalA11ies, an accessibility nonprofit. Recently, I started doing volunteer work for ENTORCHA, which is a collaborative, community focused effort to document Puerto Rico’s design history.

Furthermore, in 2021, I created a grassroots group called Women in Client Experience, which aims to bridge the gap with truly intersectional approaches to customer-centricity.
